~ Amelia Curran ~

I first heard Amelia Curran at The Songwriter Summit I produced at Piece A Cake Restaurant during the 2006 ECMAS. Lukas Pearse her bass player who was also playing bass for Catherine MacLellan asked me if I could find a slot for this Amelia Curran at the Summit. It would be nice since she was in Charlottetown and available. I told him I would see what I could do. I did find a spot for her and I am so very glad I did.

As she got up to perform I found my favorite spot on the Piece A Cake stairs leading out into the mall and sat down to check out this singer/songwriter whose name I was a familiar with but has never seen perform live! The set was only like 25 minutes but from the very first song I was hooked. At the end of the set I knew I had witnessed something special. Her name was Amelia Curran and she was one talented singer/songwriter. That was the night I became an Amelia Curran fan. I have since heard her perform on a number of occasions and have listened to her most successful album War Brides many many times . Bottom line? I always want to hear more. Few artists can elicit that kind of response in me, Amelia Curran did.

When asked what she is all about, her response is "We play and we play some more". Her influences range from Randy Newman and Tom Waits to Leonard Cohen, Neil Young & Crazy Horse and the Beatles. Originally from Newfoundland, Amelia now lives in Halifax NS but still manages to spend time in her native province.

The War Brides album was the fourth release for Amelia Curran. She initially emerged with her debut CD Barricade in 2000. Then came the seven piece ensemble The Sense Amelia Project with Trip Down Little Road followed by the solo project Lullabies For Barflies.

With the independent success of War Brides, Amelia was able to parlay that success into a record deal with Six Shooter Records where her brand new much anticipated follow up to War Brides will be released this fall I understand.

In the meantime we still carry “Lullabies For Barflies” in download only format. We love the album and we think the title is one of the best titles for an album all time. It’s our little way of staying in touch with her talent as she takes her journey and her musical ride around the world. Good luck Amelia!

Amelia also has a very cool band that she plays with when time & money permit. They are the Mercy Band. Members include Lukas Pearse, bass; Benn Ross, drums and percussion and Phil Sedore, electric guitar, accordion and organ. Originally from Newfoundland, Amelia now lives in Halifax NS.

War Brides

"Amelia Curran could very well be a poet, as her lyrical perception borders on unmasked vulnerability and contemplative wistfulness. By developing her natural skill and allowing the songs to gestate over an extended period of time, she has artfully crafted a timeless anthology of songs on her fourth album War Brides." Chart Attack Magazine - Shannon Webb - Campbell
