Saint John NB singer/songwriter Clinton Charlton has been honing his craft for years in local music venues, festivals and high-profile opening gigs for the likes of Josh Ritter. With earnest arrangements and heartfelt lyrics of love and loss, multi-instrumentalist Clinton Charlton is a songwriter who's definitely done his homework. He has earned a reputation as a talented and varied writer who is no stranger to tradition. Reciting such influences as Havest-era Neil Young, James Taylor, Jim Croce and Townes Van Zandt , Charlton's songs are rooted in the folk tradition. "There is something so pure about an acoustic guitar, a voice and a song" says Charlton, "...it's therapeutic".
“Clinton bowls you over with a subtle but powerful performance with songs that stay locked in your head as well as your heart.” Jeff Liberty – Artist Manager/Promoter
"It's hard to keep a band together in this town" Clinton remarked the night his former band, The Carousels, rocked a small Saint John pub for the last time. But by the time that day had come, the energetic front man known for his hard driving guitars and raspy vocals, had already recorded his decidedly more intimate solo EP, These Stars We See also available from Sandbar.
Since that release the multi-instrumentalist has been honing his folk sensibilities and songwriting while recording a 6 song disc with friend and Reckless Sweethearts songstress, Tracey Lavigne. The new release Parade includes songs that have become performance staples like Words, and Angels of Canterbury Street. His new release features some of his most personal and raw original material to date. Take a listen and I think you will agree.
