~ FUGATO ~

EPK
Fugato arrived on the PEI music scene in early 2005. They started out as a trio featuring Pete MacDonald on bass, Jonathan Holmes on drums and Mark Steele on guitar and vocals. In short order, Mark Stevenson joined the band on guitar and vocals then, in quick succession came Tamara Gough on trombone and vocals and Mike MacDougall with percussion. The result was a beefed up totally rockin’ funk sound of massive proportions! Then came a recent hiatus for the band that lasted a little less than a year. Currently the band is back to playing on the local scene. It is now a 4 piece rock band in its latest incarnation. No word yet about a new album to go with the new sound.

The members of Fugato have varied musical pasts. Pete and Jonathan have played together for the past 13 years in bands such as Supercar and Port Citizen and with ECMA award winner Scott Parsons. Devin and Mark came from a band called Tumbleweed. The sound of Fugato on the two albums here in our catalogue is a rock, funk, reggae fusion type sound with a hint of bluegrass. While it appears to be a strange brew, it worked very well due to the members varied tastes in music, styles and influences
.
Their second album and their first full length CD called “The Stash” is the follow up to their EP “Grass Radio” which won a Music PEI Award for alternative recording of the year in 2006. Both albums are available here at Sandbar Music.
