~ James Phillips ~

James Phillips has been with a number of groups since he first picked up a guitar some sixteen years ago. He has intersts in a number of different genres and styles. Stone River, Mazurkazz , the legendary New Drifts, Saddle River and La Funk 6, the Stephane Bouchard jazz project are all part of his resume. He often accompanies Catherine MacLellan and performs as a solo artist.
Now comes his latest project , the James Phillips Band in which he has brought together another group of fine musicians to play songs from his first singer/songwriter project, “Notes From The Underground”, a collection of twelve songs written over the past ten years. Musical contributions to this gem came from folks like Catherine MacLellan, Troy MacArthur, Stephane Bouchard, Mike Dixon and Carl Cormier. For his band James has assembled a very talented group starting with Stephane Bouchard on bass, guitarist & keyboard player, Romeo Beaulieu and drummer, Kirk White. The album was recently nominated for a 2005 PEI Music award as alternative recording of the year. Americana UK called the album a "promising debut."
James continues to live in Tyne Valley PEI as well as run his production company, Sunza Horse Productions with partner, Troy MacArthur. He juggles gigs with his many recording projects. As a producer/engineer Sunza Horse has been responsible for a lot of Island content. Credits include the first Brooke Miller CD, Catherine MacLellan’s, “Dark Dream Midnight, Pat Deighan’s, “Night Light”, the Stephane Bouchard & La Funk 6 ECMA nominated jazz album, the self title Rattlesnakin' Daddies CD and his very own solo project, “Notes From The Underground” Other credits include Third from Eyes for Telescopes, A Cared For Place by Dan Currie and 45 Strings released by the Tuesdays and do not forget the New Drifts. James is also the guy behind the controls for The Robots 5 song EP and the 6 song EP from rockers Double Ought Buckshot. |
