~ John Connolly ~
|
John Connolly is a singer/songwriter. His latest album is a collection of eclectic songs from the heart with a helping of folk rock and roots rock and a tasty side of genuine old fashioned folk. There’s even a cover of a Gene MacLellan classic “Hard As I Try”. The latest project is the follow up to his debut EP Soul Sessions from 2006. The new self-titled album won three Music PEI 2009 awards for the artist. John won for “Alternative Artist of the Year” as well as, “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “Album of the Year”. He also showcased with his band on the ECMA Rising Star and the Music PEI stages in Corner Brook NL at ECMA 2009. He will be showcasing at Contact East in Moncton NB in October.
John was a founding member of the short-lived but popular PEI band Elephant Rock. Since their demise he has focused on getting his own full length album recorded and released. That happened on September 12th with a very successful sold out joint CD release at the Guild with Meaghan Blanchard. John also served as the producer of Meaghan’s “Changing Things” CD.
John Connolly is also a bit of a renaissance man whose acting skills have landed him roles as the young Stompin' Tom Connors in the hit musical “The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom” which packed them in at the MacKenzie Theater in Charlottetown PEI last summer and as the young Stan Rogers in this summer’s musical production at the MacKenzie about the life and times of Stan Rogers called “A Matter Of The Heart”.
In addition to his summer theater gig, John has been busy playing around the Maritimes whenever he can. He has also managed to play some Ontario shows at popular venues like the Cameron House in Toronto and the Black Sheep in Wakefield PQ. A trip to Nashville for two weeks was also part of the mix this past May. The purpose was to meet songwriters with the goal of doing some co-writes in the future and maybe finding a producer for the next record. John will be returning to Nashville in October ’09.
John has also written a musical on the life and times of Terry Fox which he work shopped in Toronto in the winter of 2007. The play has generated interest from several producers. Music remains his first love and John looks forward to spending time on the road this fall and bringing his songs to more people over the next year.

John Connolly
"This album has something for everyone. There's echoes of Springsteen, hats off to Cocker, some Lightfoot story telling, a tribute to Gene MacLellan, a little cocktail music but most of all it has John Connolly with his distinctive but electic sound and his love of the music he shares with you on this disc.It don't get much better! No Way! No How!"
