 Meaghan Blanchard is a 20 year old emerging singer/songwriter from Hunter River PEI. Her passion is music. She is in her third year at UPEI and has been performing in front of school, church and community benefit concert audiences from a young age, graduating to all ages shows and coffee houses in high school and now to concert venues, bars, and restaurants. She released her very first album “Changing Things”in September 2008. The album was recorded in Charlottetown at Big Grey Sound Studios. It was produced by John Connolly and engineered by Jon Matthews. Mastering was handled by Paul Milner.
The album recently won “Folk Album of the Year” honors for Meaghan at the Music PEI 2009 Awards. In addition, Meaghan was chosen “New Artist Of the Year”, “Songwriter of the Year” and “ Female Vocalist of the Year”. Meaghan also received two ECMA 2009 nominations for “Folk Album of the Year” and “Rising Star”. She also showcased at the Bluebird North Songwriters showcase at ECMA 2009 and performed the song Maizie live on stage during the Awards gala. Meaghan was a busy performer at this year’s ECMAs with a total of five showcase appearances.
Meaghan was also selected to showcase not once but twice on the Music PEI stage during ECMA 2008 in Fredericton in acknowledgement of her talents both as a performer and a songwriter. She also was selected to showcase at the first annual Music PEI International Showcase event held in September 2008. Her joint CD launch last September with John Connolly at the Guild in Charlottetown was one of the most successful launches ever on PEI. Highlights for summer 2009 include Festival of Lights, Indian River Music festival and the Canada Games Concert Series. Other highlights include the Opening Ceremonies of the Canada Games as well as having her song Bonnie performed by the Young Company at Confederation Center throughout the summer as part of their noon hour performance.
She continues to develop her skills and talents playing whenever she has the opportunity. Meaghan is also featured in a pod cast series produced by Sandbar Music featuring some of the best songwriters from PEI. The series is now being made available on line for download and listening at www.closetothecoastradio.com.
When you listen to Meaghan, you are struck by her powerful but controlled voice and her ability to sing her material with total commitment. In her songwriting you will also notice a maturity beyond her years. She writes songs that connect to listeners much older than herself which is a rare gift in one so young
