EPK
Nikkie loved the idea of working and living on PEI. So she moved back from Calgary AB before her last album was released in 2005. She has been here ever since. It has meant performing and being able to record in this magical place she calls home. That album “When You Find It” was released in 2005 and was the follow up to her first album released in 2000 called “Blue Roses”. One thing Nikkie does not do is make an album quickly.

Her music had been a diverse blend of folk, pop and rock. Nikkie now looks to add sparse and mature to that description. “I started looking for a new direction and sound for my songs and I think I found it” she says. “It’s music for grown ups that reflects the changes I have been through in the past few years”, she adds. In 2007, Nikkie decided to step back from performing, taking the occasional gig and start thinking about what she really wanted to do as a performer. She has continued to write new material through this period as well as go back to school to pick up a business diploma with an emphasis on marketing.

Since her return home from “Wild Rose” country, she had been playing around the local music scene both as a solo artist, in a duo and with a short-lived band she called the Players. She even managed to work in a Maritime tour including Newfoundland in that period. Her resume also includes playing time in Calgary for over a year, as well as, an appearance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Her album When You Find It was nominated for “pop” album of the year at Music PEI awards. She has performed with artists like Lennie Gallant , as well as, Catherine MacLellan and Julie Doiron. She also has showcased at Contact East and performed at The Songwriter Summit. She also was part of the Island Songwriters Podcast series produced by Sandbar Music in 2008. It’s available from the iTunes podcast directory and closetocoastradio.com.

She explains it this way:”Having audiences enjoy my music has been such a big thrill for me. It was exciting to meet new people and share my music with them but there comes time when you need to find out what you really want to do with your life so I took some time off to reflect and re-invent. I’m glad I did. Now I look forward to putting together the next chapter of my musical evolution and life story. More performing and another album are part of that plan.” The Island will remain her base. Her music comes from here and she expects to build her career from this place she calls home.

When You Find It

“She is a unique voice and demonstrates a real presence that transcends her music. Nikkie takes you into her world to experience her music, her enthusiasm for what she does and to just have fun!! She has found it with this CD and now she just wants to share it with me and you and the rest of the planet if she can. That’s a worthy goal from where I sit.”
