With the release of their debut recording To Serve The Song, the band Rhythm Rules has cooked up a menu featuring a variety of flavors including reggae and rock, and a mix of hors d’ouevres from pop and folk to a hint of country.
This 12-course meal is a collection of songs written by Jon Rehder and Reg Ballagh, “lovingly and sometimes angrily,” served up with just the right amount of herbs and spice. “It’s food for thought,” says Jon, “from the service in the Temple of Song.”
The band features Chris Gauthier, guitar, lap steel; Remi Arsenault, bass; Reg Ballagh drums, percussion, vocals ; Jon Rehder, guitar; piano, vocals; and Patricia Richard vocals. Additional creative colors are supplied by Johnny “Porko” Theodore organ, Herb Poole baritone horn, Barrie Sorensen sax section, and Rick Tersteeg cello. Special assistance and “musicality” was provided by Nick Gauthier.
This project was recorded at Reggie’s Recording Palace and engineered and mixed by James Carrier, “the Cowboy Scientist.” It was produced by James Carrier and Rhythm Rules.
To Serve The Song was launched at The Guild in Charlottetown on May 30. The CD is available at Sandbar Music in digital and physical formats. It will be available at fine on line stores around the world like iTunes globally, E Music, Rhapsody, Amazon, Pure Tracks, Rogers and Bell mobile to name just a few in the coming months.
